COMMUNITY, REVIEW & CONTENT POLICY

Effective Date: September 24, 2026

Ratemyrjteacher.com exists to give students and other users a place to share genuine educational experiences.

The central rule is:

Review the educational experience—not the person's private life.

1. WHAT BELONGS ON RATEMYRJTEACHER.COM

Appropriate reviews may discuss:

- teaching style;

- clarity of instruction;

- organization;

- workload;

- homework;

- grading;

- tests;

- assignments;

- classroom participation;

- responsiveness;

- communication;

- course expectations;

- classroom environment; and

- other firsthand educational experiences.

Examples

Appropriate:

"The teacher explains difficult material clearly."

Appropriate:

"I found the class extremely fast-paced."

Appropriate:

"The grading criteria were difficult for me to understand."

Appropriate:

"There was more homework than I expected."

2. FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE

Reviews should be based on your own experience.

Do not submit:

"I heard that..."

"Someone told me..."

"Everyone knows..."

"Apparently..."

If you did not personally experience something, don't present it as your own experience.

3. OPINIONS ARE PERMITTED

You may express opinions about your educational experience.

For example:

"I thought the class was poorly organized."

"I didn't find the teaching style effective."

"I thought the workload was excessive."

"I found the teacher very helpful."

The Site does not require every opinion to be positive.

4. SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS ARE OUT OF BOUNDS

Do not use the Site to accuse a teacher, student, or other person of:

- criminal conduct;

- theft;

- fraud;

- drug use;

- sexual misconduct;

- sexual assault;

- child abuse;

- abuse or neglect;

- serious professional misconduct;

- financial wrongdoing;

- or similar serious misconduct.

This applies even if you believe the allegation is true.

The Site is not an investigative or adjudicative forum for these matters.

5. NO RUMORS

Rumors are prohibited.

If the information came from another person, social media, gossip, or an unnamed source, do not submit it as part of a review.

6. NO STUDENT INFORMATION

Do not identify or discuss another student in a way that could expose private information.

Do not post:

- names;

- addresses;

- telephone numbers;

- email addresses;

- grades;

- disciplinary information;

- medical information;

- counseling information;

- family information;

- student IDs;

- private social-media accounts; or

- other sensitive student information.

7. DON'T IDENTIFY YOURSELF

Although reviews are designed to be anonymous, users should not put identifying information into the review itself.

Don't include:

- your full name;

- your email address;

- your phone number;

- your student ID;

- your exact home address;

- your private social-media account; or

- unnecessary details that would allow others to identify you.

8. NO THREATS OR HARASSMENT

Do not threaten, stalk, intimidate, harass, or target anyone.

Do not encourage others to target someone.

Do not publish someone's private information to encourage others to contact them.

9. NO RETALIATION

The Site must not be used to retaliate against:

- a teacher;

- student;

- parent;

- administrator;

- reviewer; or

- any other person.

Attempts to identify anonymous reviewers are prohibited.

10. NO RATING CAMPAIGNS

Do not organize groups to artificially raise or lower a rating.

Do not create multiple submissions to manipulate a teacher's rating.

Do not submit a review if you did not actually experience the class.

11. REPORTING CONTENT

Every review may be reported through the Site's reporting mechanism.

Reports should identify the specific content and the reason for the report.

Possible report categories include:

- serious allegation;

- private information;

- student information;

- threat;

- harassment;

- fake review;

- rating manipulation;

- impersonation;

- copyright issue;

- or other policy violation.

12. POST-PUBLICATION MODERATION

Reviews may be visible before they have been manually reviewed.

Ratemyrjteacher.com may subsequently review reported or otherwise identified content.

We may:

- leave the content in place;

- remove it;

- restrict its visibility;

- suspend related functionality; or

- take other appropriate action.

We do not promise that every review will be reviewed before publication.

13. WE ARE NOT A FACT-FINDING BODY

Ratemyrteacher.com does not generally attempt to determine which participant in a factual dispute is telling the truth.

Our role is to administer the Site's rules.

We may remove content because it violates our rules without determining whether every underlying factual allegation is true or false.

14. TEACHER RESPONSE

Where available, teachers may submit responses.

Responses must comply with the same privacy, harassment, and safety rules.

A teacher may not use a response to identify a student or reveal confidential information about a student.

15. COMPLAINTS BY TEACHERS OR OTHER SUBJECTS OF REVIEWS

A teacher or other person who believes a review violates these policies may report it.

A complaint should identify:

1. the review;

2. the specific statement at issue;

3. the policy allegedly violated; and

4. the reason for the complaint.

A complaint does not automatically result in removal.

Unfavorable opinions and criticism are not automatically policy violations.

16. SERIOUS SAFETY MATTERS

Do not use Ratemyrjteacher.com as an emergency reporting system.

If there is an immediate threat to life or safety, contact 911.

Suspected abuse, sexual assault, child abuse, criminal conduct, or other serious misconduct should be reported to an appropriate authority.

17. REMOVAL

Ratemyrjteacher.com may remove content whenever it determines that the content violates this Policy, the Terms of Use, applicable law, or the safety or legitimate interests of the Site or its users.

We may remove content even if the person who submitted it disagrees with the decision.

18. BAD-FAITH REPORTING

Do not knowingly submit false complaints for the purpose of suppressing legitimate criticism.

Repeated abuse of the reporting system may result in restrictions on access to Site features.

19. BASIC RULE

Before submitting a review, ask:

"Am I telling people what my educational experience was like, or am I trying to tell people something damaging about another person's life?"

If it is the second, don't submit it.
